Perspiration Pals 1 January 2025

Hello there, Pals! I started the thread on Christmas Day, and now I get to start it on New Year’s Day, too! No pressure, no pressure. How are you today? Last night was terribly noisy but for the first time in years, I managed to fall asleep while the world was trying to keep me awake…

Anyway, let’s talk about exercise first because even though I don’t make resolutions I promised myself to keep working out for as long as possible. I started Beyond the Build with Brian again and I was happy to see that there was only a 30-minute stretching routine scheduled for today. (I’m really sore after two long lower- and upper-body routines.) What about you? What are you doing right now?

Moving on to our fact-finder fragment, I found this fact snippet in 222 QI Answers to Your Quite Ingenious Questions: Have you ever wondered why we have two nostrils rather than one big one? Having two nostrils lets us detect a wider range of smells and do so more quickly than we would with just one larger one. There’s one nostril that’s usually the ‘main’ detector. You can check which one this currently is by holding one side of your nose closed, taking a breath, and then switching sides – one nostril should feel slightly blocked. They keep switching. It’s called the nasal cycle. Also, have you ever wondered which of our lips is the most important? Turns out it’s the bottom lip. It’s more sensitive than our top one and plays a bigger role in activities such as smiling and kissing.

So that’s it from me today, Pals, have a nice day, and try not to think about the future. It’s bad for your health. (Ivett’s random piece of advice)
