Today I want to share my experience from earlier today with all of you who (like me!) are afraid of breaks "destroying" the progress you made. Since a nasty cold (thankfully, no Covid!) took me by surprise two weeks ago, I had to take a break from my usual exercise routine. I didn't do anything close to exercising for a whole week. Last week, I still kind of felt like I wasn't back to 100%. I couldn't put my finger on it, I just felt like my body still needed some time to bounce back. So last week, I did a week of FB Beginner - just some Pilates, stretching, light cardio... it barely felt like anything. I was certain that I would have lost some progress during those two weeks.
But... when I started back in my normal routine (I actually started FB Fit30 today!) I realised that I was more fit than before my cold! I was actually able to complete more repetitions of jump squats during the two 20-second intervals and I was able to complete more repetitions of lunges as well as deadlifts during the strength part. And all of that despite being on call the night before and on barely any sleep.
I'm sorry for the rant, this turned out longer than I thought. Long story short: sometimes your body needs rest, and you really shouldn't be afraid to take breaks if you need them! To be honest, I was always scared of taking breaks - now I actually think about deliberately scaling back on my workout intensity every once in a while for 1-2 weeks in order to give my body some rest in between the more brutal programs.
Don't be afraid of breaks!
