How can I overcome my constantly reappearing lower back pain?
Hi everyone!
I hope all of you are doing great! :)
I am struggling at the moment, unfortunately. Again. (see TLDR and question at the bottom if my story is too long :D)
I have been struggling with back issues basically my whole life (scoliosis, hollow back, pain, etc.) I have also had major setbacks in my Fitnessblender journey during the past 4 years. The issues seemed to all stem from having weak (or not activated) glutes and abs and I resolved them all by strengthening those specific muscle groups. I have always been a little jealous of people who have never struggled with doing basic squats, deadlifts or bentover flies.
In April of this year, I really messed up my back while doing deadlifts for FB Strong. I couldn't even bend over for a couple of days and consequently had to rebuild my muscles completely from the ground up. All the progress gone yet again, like so many other times in the past. This time I was super aware of my lower back. I did FB Low Impact 2, FB 30 round 4, and I started FB Abs 2 about 1,5 weeks ago because that has helped me with back and hip flexor issues in the past. It was a miracle cure back then. Last week, I was so proud of myself and how I handled my 4 workouts and took the weekend off from working out because proper rest is so important for me.
However, over the weekend some pain developed in my lower back and culminated in me realizing on Monday that I was having similar pain as back in April, just not as severe. I have no idea how this happened again! I was so sure that I had paid attention to really protecting my back during all the bentover exercises and so on. I do have to say though that in these past 3 to 4 months I noticed how much my legs, arms and core were regaining their strength, but I felt like my back was not keeping up. I almost felt like any exercise I was doing specifically for my back made it hurt in return, so I didn't challenge my back like my other muscles.
Question:
Should I have incorporated back-specific exercises every week? How do I overcome this insane weakness in my lower back that I seem to be having?
TLDR: I don't know how I injured my lower back, yet again, and I just don't know what I am doing wrong.
