I started doing Crossfit about three years ago after a friend told me to try it. I was middle-aged, quite out of shape, had recently quit smoking, and I couldn't find a workout that I truly enjoyed, so I thought I would give it a shot, as terrified as I was. Turns out I LOVED it. The quick pace and constant change appealed to me (I never had a chance to get bored). Problem was, the head coach was not good. He basically looked down on me because I wasn't already in great shape. This is not the norm in CrossFit. The community is amazingly welcoming and supportive. I just happened to have a bad coach. When my favorite part-time coach left, I decided it was time for me to go too. I was in great shape, but I got stressed out before walking into the box every single time. Working out should NOT give you anxiety! And as Daniel and Kelly have said on more than one occasion, it should not make you feel light-headed or nauseated either (this was almost encouraged in CrossFit). Soooo, now I needed a similar workout to do at home. I tried a few on YouTube and nothing clicked. I finally found Fitness Blender and WOW. I tried one of the free five day workouts and immediately loved it. So I did the free five day workouts for about a year! I then had elbow surgery and couldn't work out for several months and my body (and psyche) suffered for it. I tried getting back into it a few times, but I just wasn't ready, physically or mentally. I then got a notification that the FB Blend workout was available. I felt like it was "a sign" that I was ready. I had never visited the website before, nor had I bought a workout program. I recently finished the program, and am back in for round two. I am so proud of and amazed at how much stronger I've gotten in such a short time. I went from not even being able to put any weight on my arm, to doing eight "real" pushups in a row the other day. If you have any doubts at all, I'm telling you, these people are the real deal. And they're adorable to boot.
Better than CrossFit...A long journey to get here
