Combinations

Hey guys!

I’m currently doing a combination of two programs, and I think it’s no secret I’m not very pleased with how it’s turning out (while I do love each of those individually).

It got me thinking about the nature of putting (fitness-related) things together and how they aren’t a sum of their parts, more is not better and all those things. And not just in terms of “too much”, more like “too broad”. So even if they aren’t too taxing physically, just demand a split in what your mind is focused on - how does that affect you? Your concentration, your motivation, your feeling of accomplishment?

I know much of it is individual preference and no point in comparing but still I love to hear many different opinions and experiences (and I love posts that are survey-like :)) so here goes:

1. PROGRAMS. Have you combined programs? Which ones? How did you like it? Do you plan to do it again (same or different combinations)? How did you handle the scheduling, did it frustrate you? If you also tried those same programs individually did you like them more on their own or paired? What is it that you find rewarding when doing combos? Well, basically, any thoughts you have on combining programs, I’m all ears :)

2. VIDEOS PER DAY. Do you prefer one video per day or a combination of several videos? Why? (regardless of body focus, type or length, just is it all put into one video or more)

3. COMBO EXERCISES. How do you feel about them in general? Do you have some favorite combinations (maybe some you like so much that you add them even if not in video)? Do you have some you always dislike and skip? Which ones? Can you tell if body focus makes a difference in your liking (if it’s a combined body focus like in deadlift+fly, or same body focus but combo-move like in squat to lunge), and also do you like them differently if they’re with weights or bodyweight?

4. COOLDOWN STRETCHES. Talking about cooldown specifically, which do you prefer – one stretch at a time or combos?

5. extra credit question :) – do you think there is a link between 1-4, i.e. if you don’t like combinations on one level you probably won’t like them on any? Can you recognize a personal trait that you think makes you like or dislike it? (like in my case I’m generally bad at multitasking) And do you think it’s possible/worth it to change that?

I’ll give my answers in a comment too, but the shortened version would be that when doing different things at once I feel more or less like that cat in the pic :D (she definitely could have climbed higher if she just kept to one tree, right?)

Btw, by all means feel free to make a “combo” reply and mash it all together without the numbering :) Or just skip boring parts and comment on what’s interesting to you.

Thanks for reading and even more thanks if you take the time to answer, looking forward to hearing your views!

Cheers
