Hi there, Pals! I’ve been a bit reclusive lately, I know, but every time I want to leave a comment, I feel it’s either irrelevant, boring or too negative. (I don’t believe in being positive all the time even if you feel rotten but there’s a line.) I had a discussion with one of my students about whether we are bodies with a mind or minds with bodies. I would like to say that I’m a mind with a body but all the hormonal changes and chemical reactions in my body seriously affect my personality, mood, mind and general well-being so I can’t honestly say that we are minds with bodies. Look how philosophical this first paragraph has turned out to be!
Let’s move on to exercise. My elbow is still not quite right but I refuse to mollycoddle (is this word still used...?) it and so I’ve been doing strength training ever since the end of March. I keep going back to the same programs because I want to challenge myself and see if I can actually improve or at least maintain my strength. This morning (crack of dawn, really), instead of the usual two dumbbells, I used my EZ bar with two plates to do bicep curls and it’s much better that way! Have you done anything differently recently?
Moving on to our fact-finder fragment. Have you ever thrown a boomerang? Will it really come back? Apparently, it depends on which type you have. The arms of a returning boomerang are shaped like an aeroplane’s wings. This creates the shape needed for it to fly, the flat underside creating an area of higher pressure under the wing that keeps the boomerang airborne. Non-returning boomerangs were used in hunting (for clubbing prey) and for fighting as well as for stoking fires, digging and clearing ground.
I’ve been going through some pictures on my laptop and I found the ones Kim posted of the snowy owls. Good old times. I hope Kim and all the others, who no longer post here on a regular basis, are all right. I’d love to hear from you again.
All right, Pals, that’s it from me today, have an easy day/night and eat some seasonal fruit. (I’m really looking forward to strawberries and cherries…)
