Upper Body 3 Day Split Workouts.

I have a question about a 3 day split workout series I like. These routines are structured as 6 exercises in a set, and a set is repeated to do it 3 times. I have done these routines a number of times over the course of a week (Mon, Wed, Fri). Instead of doing 3 sets of 3 workouts over 3 days does anybody know if it's valid exercise to do 1 set from each of the 3 days as 1 routine - making it more of a complete upper body routine rather than a 3 day split? (Assuming what I've written makes any sense!)
