Perspiration Pals 13 November 2024

Hi there, Pals! How are you? Hoy es miércoles which means we’re nearly halfway through the week. Of course, if you like your job, it’s slightly easier because you don’t spend most of your days looking forward to the weekend. On a brighter note, and I happened to find out about this in passing, one of my colleagues commented that I was really helpful in a project and it would be so nice to feel appreciated a bit more frequently.

Anyway, let’s talk about exercise, I’m about to finish Strength and Cardio with Brian and I must say it’s a highly effective program/challenge and I really like Brian’s style. Right now, my arms are quite sore and I feel invigorated after every workout session. Unfortunately, my mood is always ruined by public transport but there’s not much I can do about that.

Moving on to our fact-finder fragment. I think it’s more important than ever to listen to conscientious scientists and expert before forming an opinion so as always whatever you read here is preceded by a little research but I always recommend doing your own research before you take my fun facts at face value. Did you know that the so-called original penguin Pinguinus impennis doesn’t exist anymore and the animals we call penguins have very little to do with these extinct creatures? Sometimes, distantly related organisms that live in similar habitats can develop similar traits – in this case, the stubby flippers that great auks and penguins use to propel themselves through water. Biologists call this phenomenon “convergent evolution” Also, we sort of fell for a “lie” about the length of our blood vessels. According to the original source at the beginning of the 20th century our blood vessels taken together add up to 100.000 kilometres. Wrong. It wasn’t really a lie but simply a wrong calculation that was taken for granted. If you want to see a fun video about this, here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgo7rm5Maqg

All right, Pals, I need to go now because I have to be helpful. Have an easy day and don’t forget to eat all your veggies.
