Wearing braces as an adult

Hello Blender Community! I hope you are going strong and tending to your health on all fronts 💪

So... At a ripe age of 46 I'm thinking it might be time to straighten my teeth 😆 Not as an aesthetic thing (I actually think little imperfections are charming) but as a health thing. My dentist had been suggesting for years that straightening them would make brushing more effective, which would help keep them healthy for a longer time etc. But I always felt if I was to consciously enter a year-long discomfort I need REALLY good motivation (and I currently have no issues, just predictions of what might become issues, so I'm still not sure...)

I already had an initial appointment with the orthodontist, discussed some questions I had, scheduled further diagnostics, 3D projections and stuff (btw, WOW, the technology these days!) before making the decision, but what I would like to add to the thought process is hearing some personal experiences.

So I'm asking anyone reading this who wore braces as an adult to please share your insights! Positive and negative equally welcome. Any little detail about how it subjectively feels interests me. Like, do you get used to it (enough to "forget") after a while or are you constantly aware of it. Did it change your appetite, did it change your breath, taste, does kissing get less enjoyable, did you get more self-conscious about talking and smiling... When it was over did you think it was worth it?

Anything you can think of and share, I appreciate very much.

Thanks!😁
