Perspiration Pals 21 August 2024

Hello there, Pals! How are you? I can’t wait for summer to be over but something tells me I’ll be wearing summer clothes for another few weeks. I haven’t planned to start with yet another weather report but there you go. In other news, the office is quiet because many of my colleagues thought it would be a good idea not to come back after the long weekend. I do have holidays left but I’m saving them for December.

I started learning Spanish on Duolingo. Don’t ask why. I do that sometimes. I start learning a language on a whim and then five months later my brain says, nah… boring. Let’s learn the names of all the bones in the human body. (I already did that in 2008, though.) So now after 5 or 6 days, I can say a lot of completely unnecessary Spanish sentences. Like Yo necesito un vestido. Who cares? Or Quiero un libro. Speaking of, I’m looking forward to Yuval Noah Harari’s new book, Nexus, coming out in September. But let’s move on to talking about exercise because this is Fitness Blender, not Listen to Ivett’s Rambling About Random Stuff.

I did Day 10 of Build with Tasha which was all about core and balance that I don’t have early in the morning. Balance, that is, not core. I do have a core even early in the morning. Imagine not having a core when you get up… These roughly 45–50-minute workout sessions are rather tough. Yesterday was upper-body day and quite surprisingly my arm is not more painful than it was. In fact, it’s not bad at all. But I don’t want to jinx it.

Let’s move on to our fact-finder fragment, instead. Did you know that the Hadal Zone, named after Hades, the underworld in Greek mythology, refers to the deepest regions of the ocean, below 6,000 meters? This mysterious realm remains largely unexplored, holding untold secrets of the deep sea. Also, did you know that in 18th century England, pineapples were so rare and expensive that they were rented out for parties and returned to the owner afterwards? Imagine giving someone a half-rotten pineapple instead of just eating it… Bonus fact: Super recognizers are individuals with an exceptional ability to recognize faces, even those seen briefly years before.

All right Pals, I need to go now, be good if you can, eat a pineapple and complete a whole unit on Duolingo in a random language.

PS, the picture I attached today is my botany experiment. It seems to be working. It's another Zamioculcas zamiifolia like Zaphod.
