Soreness after Ashtanga Yoga (beginner class)

Hello there!

Just some random thoughts to share. So, here's the thing: I have this 1h30 beginner Ashtanga Yoga class every Sunday morning since last September. Though I struggle a lot to do the asanas but I'm always happy to come to class and savour the Sun Salutations.

Things I noticed and learnt:

■ I managed to control the descent in Chaturanga Dandasana (knees on the floor). Is this the reason why I feel the soreness on my shoulders and triceps for next two or three days after class? My upper body is never sore from regular dumbbells workouts though. Quadriceps and hamstrings are also sore (Utkatasana/Seat Pose, Padangusthasana/Big Toe Pose, Pada Hastasana/Hand-to-Foot Pose among others).

■ Yoga is for everybody (and every body!). Some younger/older folks struggle in certain asanas despite their rather slim/fit/strong appearance. Others who look older and rather petite and/or thick and weak but OH WOW, they rock in most asanas! So, don't judge a book by its cover. Don't compare yourself with/to others. Just do your best. No competition. "Practice and all is coming". Yoga teaches us to be humble.

■ I feel like I'm more grounded now. I think I've managed to slow down a bit and not to be overwhelmed by stress or other things/people especially at work during peak crazy seasons. Thanks to Ujjayi Breathing? I'm working in artisanal high-end bean-to-bar chocolat industry. So Christmas and Easter are just "wild"!

I'll be very pleased to have any advice, insights, comments from Marina, Aly, other FB fellows (yogi or not), everyone is welcomed.

Cheers!
