New Video! Power Yoga and Barre-Inspired Fusion for Total Body

Let’s switch things up and get our sweat on with this total body power yoga and barre-inspired workout routine!

Power Yoga and Barre-Inspired Fusion

This practice combines full-range movements and micro movements to target both larger and smaller muscle groups in the upper and lower body. After a brief warm-up to integrate the breath and activate the core, we will transition to our feet and add in the weights! The standing section of this practice will not only challenge our muscular strength and endurance, but will challenge our balance as well. Our practice will cool down with some reclined stretches and a brief Savasana, which I encourage you to stay in for as long as you’d like. While there are not modifications offered throughout this video, I encourage you to take breaks when you need to and challenge yourself when appropriate; please read the workout write-up as well if you’d like some ideas on how to modify your practice in specific sections.

I know that Barre, Ballet and Yoga-inspired exercises can feel intimidating to many. It’s easy to take what we know about these movement patterns and create self-limiting stories about how we aren’t flexible or mobile or strong enough yet to engage with these forms of exercise. However, what if I told you that these exercises can be accessible no matter where you’re at in your practice? I’d like to invite you into the work with me of letting these self-limiting stories go; what if rather than focusing on what we looked like during these movements, we shifted our focus to how these movements make our bodies feel? We don’t need to be professional dancers or the most accomplished yogis to receive the benefits of these practices; in fact, yoga isn’t about performance at all. My intention for sharing this fusion practice with you is to switch our movements up, exploring new and fun ways to strengthen and stretch our bodies and to challenge our internal resistance. A loving reminder that mindful movement that allows us to compassionately engage in the present moment with ourselves and others is what this is all about.

So I invite you to join me in this practice of releasing the stories and judgments that no longer serve us. I invite you to embrace your resistance and gently call yourself back to the present moment when the movements begin to feel like too much. I offer an anchor to the present moment, when you find your mind wandering: “How do these movements make me feel?” Consistently shifting the focus to how we feel rather than how we perceive can make a difference in our mindsets, not just in the moment, but long-term as well.

I hope this class challenges you and also leaves you feeling empowered! These workouts are a great opportunity to not only gain new tools, but to challenge our areas of resistance together as a community.
