Reflections on working out with FB for most of the past year
Sooo, it's december and I just realized I've been working out for most of the year with FB only. Up until 2020 I used to go to the gym 3-4 times a week and do a fitness group hour (weights/mats/etc). All of a sudden that was no longer an option and I joined FB that year and started working out at home and slowly getting the gear I needed (various weights, good mat, resistance bands, bench etc).
In 2021 I tried getting back into my gym routine and while I really enjoyed the social aspect of the group, I began to realize that the exercises really didn't cut it for me anymore.
Starting in 2022 I felt like I was sort-of falling off the wagon and just not consistently exercising all muscles and that, to change this, I really wanted to go back to the FB individual workouts. I decided to go with a year of FB Plus instead of the gym (I still go on occasion just to socialize). I had the loose goal of doing around 30 minutes of exercise daily in combination with walking (3 times a week), running (3 mile, twice a week) and hiking (during holidays).
Looking back I can say I managed to consistently work out this way, I feel much better because, despite doing programs, I swap out routines if I feel that would be better and I've learned to find a balance in listening to my body, but also not letting myself get off the hook too easy. I don't skip exercising unless there are special occasions (birthdays, holidays etc); if I feel tired I'll do an easy stretching routine, but no skipping.
I can lift more weight and still keep good form for most exercises than a year ago, I feel more flexible and my daily workouts are just a nice, healthy way for me to relax.
Thank you FitnessBlender, I'll definitely continue to work out this way next year!
