This practice is a gentle + slower-paced flow that will help you to open stiff joints and release tight muscles. In contrast to the flowy/stretchy movements, we will hold certain postures for 26 breaths as we engage our breath of fire. What is this “Breath Of Fire” you may ask? Well allow me to explain! :-)
The first 3 minutes of the video I explain + demonstrate the technique of Breath Of Fire; if you are already familiar with this breath practice, please feel free to skip this part of the video and get right to the asana. However, if you are new to this breath practice, watch the first 3 minutes and remember that if the pace of this breathing style ever feels like too much, you can always take it at a pace that feels comfortable to you or skip it altogether.
There are a wide range of benefits to Breath Of FIre, and I personally love to incorporate it in my own flows. It helps me to engage my core + flow from a place of support; it helps to build some internal heat; it also helps me to feel awake + energized. Outside of my practice, I use Breath Of Fire often as well. If I feel uncomfortable after eating a large meal, I’ll take this breath because it aids the digestive process, as well as helps the body to dispel any air that might have gotten stuck in the stomach while eating. I also love to take this breath if I’ve hit a mid-day slump + need to stay alert, but I can’t quite get up and move (like while taking a long drive).
There are so many ways to utilize and benefit from this breath! Comment below the different ways you like to use Breath Of Fire, or if you’re new to this breath, how it feels for you in your body.
