Birth Control Pills affecting muscle building?

I've read a few articles stating that hormonal birth control can affect the body's ability to build muscle. I've noticed that although I feel much better and have more energy, I seem to be seeing slower progress than I would have before I started taking birth control.

It may be because I'm getting older but I think I'm going to stop taking it after this month. I originally started taking it because I was busy with life and my painful periods got in the way of me learning stuff in a fast pace class I was taking at the time.

Since I've developed an exercise habit, perhaps my cramps won't be as painful.

Has anyone else noticed less pain around their time of the month since starting a regular exercise routine?
