Stiff neck and shoulders from weight training - advice for stretch?

A question for people who are doing Flex, Mass, Strong etc. When I train my upper body with dumbbells, I notice that my trapezius muscle (the top of it) often get stiff. My shoulders are also popping like crazy. Where I am really feeling it is on my left side, and I am right handed (I think I am catching up muscle on that side.
I also tend to get stiff in the trapezius when I do core-work, crunches etc.
This is nothing new for me, and is not a symptom of overtraining - I felt it from day one, and had issues in the past also. .I just wonder if people have found a way to stretch these muscle groups in particular? Daniel's shoulder training is coming up on my schedule and I am a little worried. At the same time, I assume that building muscles around the shoulder joint helps?
