I have been exercising 5days/week and eating well it's been almost 3 months. Based on my weight (64.2kg/141.5lbs), height (5'3"/160 cm) and age (38 years), different websites say my maintenance should be around 1550 cal/day (without counting exercising). Which means I should be in maintenance with 1800-1850cal/day with exercising. I am not counting calories. Currently I am focusing more on just making exercise a habit than cutting down calories. I did lose though, about 2 lbs over a month which was nice.
Then in last 48 years I lost another 2 lbs and I am waking up unusually famished and weak in the morning. I started to wonder how much do I eat intuitively. Last night I counted calories, it is around 1800-1900 cal. Based on that, I should not be losing much or feel THAT famished. So, I am wondering if that TDEE calculation is a bit off in reality.
You may think why am I "nagging" about losing weight. In case my TDEE is 2300 cal and I am eating 1800, I don't want that. I have had my fair share of difficulty with hypothyroidism. It is suggested (based on what I read on net and heard from some people) that hypothyroid people should not be on too much calorie deficit. I don't want to make my hormones level off again by having a 500 cal deficit and then suffer more. I am ok to live with some extra pounds as long as I am healthy and exercising.
So, my question is, anyone else found their TDEE calculation off in reality? Thanks!
PS 1. I drink 2.5-3 litres/day, so dehydration related losing weight is not an issue in my case.
PS 2. I have a polar watch that I don't wear 24/7. Few days I did wear it all day especially if I am physically going to work. It showed that I am burning 2300-2500 cal/day. But when working from home, I definitely move less.
