Pride comes before a fall..... plenty fun though!

A friend of ours was going to do some kayaking today and asked us to join. We decided to use our new paddleboards (the “we-saved-money-because-of-lockdown” presents to ourselves). The weather was sunny and not too hot, so it was nice and quiet on the river, esp going upstream. Most people go the other way, but we prefer this part of the river. I was happily paddling along on my board, in a quarter squat with abs engaged to make a more powerful stroke with my arms, and thinking: “aren’t I doing well! Look at me, squatting just right, engaging my abs, using my arms to get strong strokes“..... when I fell off the board and went totally under, getting soaked through!!!! The thought: “pride comes before a fall” immediately entered my head... my friend was yelling “man down man down” and was so annoyed as she had just stopped videoing! She missed it! I just couldn’t stop laughing! She took my pic afterwards though. Top right hand pic is me after having just gone under. Middle and bottom right show me happily smiling on the board again. We were approaching a weir and the fast flowing water caught me by surprise, that’s why I lost my balance. The left middle pic shows a heron that didn’t bat an eyelid while all the screams and splashes were going on. It just stood there in the middle of the weir, probably thinking: “here’s another lot of idiots!” The top and bottom left show some more views of the river and the bridge we went under. I sent some videos to the kids, who were mighty “jealous”! What a fun time we had together.
