A Balance Imbalance

Hey Everyone! I've never posted on here but I've been using FB for at least 4 years now. It's completely changed my life... Thank you, Kelli and Daniel!

I essentially learned to exercise with FB, and hence have always been careful about doing the same thing on both sides of the body, working opposing muscle groups, doing various forms of exercise... etc.

So I was really surprised recently to discover that I have way better balance on my left (non-dominant) leg! I noticed it a couple of times when doing single-leg deadlifts, but didn't think much of it. The other day I was doing some yoga with a challenging balance exercise, and I realized I could basically only do it (well, at least) standing on my left leg... Yikes! I did some more experimenting and realized it's definitely true :/

I read some places that this issue has to do with muscle imbalance or glute weakness (my right knee also hurts sometimes), but it's hard for me to believe considering how much I try to be careful about it. One thing I could think of is I always sit with my right foot tucked under me, which possibly overstretches the muscles?

It could be an imbalance due to exercise after all, but it seems unlikely and I wanted to check in to see if anybody over here has faced the same or a similar issue and what they did about it. I'd also love to hear any recommendations on general muscle imbalance!

Excited to be sharing with the community for the first time!
