I typically don’t talk much about myself to my patients but today someone asked if I am a runner because I am “so small”. (I’m 5’9” and 135-140ish pounds). I said that I do exercise regularly but I’m not a runner. He said “oh, like Pilates”. I said I do some Pilates but mainly I do strength training with weights. The man was shocked. “You lift weights?! You’re so small.” Ummm...I don’t consider myself small but found it interesting that he, like a lot of people I’m sure, thinks weight lifting leads to body builder form. That’s one fitness myth I wish would disappear! So many people would benefit from strength training and weights if they didn’t believe things that aren’t true.
