Recently I have missed quite a few nature conservation tasks due to my rib injury. But this morning I felt I could have a go, telling myself I would take it easy and not overdo it.... well, the task was one of scrub bashing, i.e. lopping and sawing bramble bushes and blackthorn trees and bushes. I didn’t think it the best idea to go full on for the lopping or sawing, so I decided to litterpick the area that had been cleared by another volunteer group last week. 5 (!) mins later: half a binbag full! Bottom left pic.
By then the fire had been lit and I gave myself the task of throwing sawn off branches on the fire. I dragged and lopped (a bit) and threw everything on the fire, pretty fierce at times (top right pic). My fringe got pretty singed ... oops! (Bottom right pic).
The weather was super! I was really happy to be back into my conservation routine, even though I couldn’t do as much as I usually do. Our group worked very hard, as the top left before/after pic shows.
Best part of the day: they needed someone to drive one of the landrovers and yes ... I volunteered. Loved going off-road bumping around in the field!!!
Now: sore rib again, singed fringe, but happy as a sandlark! I may not be back 100%, but I am certainly getting there!
✅ sort of.... very happy though!
