Winter Blues Challenge.... first one ✅

A member of our sea swimmers club has set up a club challenge: the Winter Blues Challenge. From October (sea temp 17 degrees) to March (sea temp 7 degrees) twice a month swim 200 meters or more with or without a wetsuit..... hubby and me thought it would be fun to join in!

So this morning we joined a group of friends and had our first sea swim this month without a wetsuit. I was fine getting in (temp 16.9): just don’t think, walk in and dive under quickly.... after 25 minutes though the air temp (16 degrees) felt sooo much colder than the water. That to me was the biggest challenge: getting out, getting dry and out of my costume and into my clothes with fingers that didn’t really want to do all that. So I listened to all the tips that were dished out by more experienced members. Next time I will make sure that 1. I have got a woolly hat to put on as soon as I come out, 2. I have warm tracksuit bottoms to put on (instead of easy to put on, but cold, shorts, 3. bring a rum toddy to put in your hot drink, 4. have three layers of sweaters, rather than just one 🤪!!! With all those tips I will probably survive the challenge! Oh and hubby and me want to not bother about wetsuits for as long as possible because they are such a pfaff (is that the spelling?) to get in and out of!

Photo: top left me splashing about and having fun with my camera, top right a friend and I decided to do handstand (imagine waves and a strong undercurrent.... doesn’t make for a beautifully executed handstand!), I like that the photo makes it appear as if something is hanging from my toe!, bottom left the official pic to be posted as proof of your swim, bottom right I left one towel on the beach to put around me as soon as I came out! It has the words “even zwemmen” (translates roughly as: go for a short swim) on it... just love the colour of it.
