Imagine this: student accommodation (read: none too clean, none too comfortable, sharing a room with someone).... after our first day of nature conservation I was knackered and therefore really looking forward to a good nightâs sleep.... well, that never materialised!
I went to (an uncomfortable) bed at 10, I was so tired, I fell asleep right away, only to be woken up at midnight by the very loud snoring of the lady I shared the room with! BTW to give you some idea of the decibel level: the men in the room next to us had complained about her snoring the night before. They could hear it through the wall! My first night hadnât been too good either... Anyway, I tried to get back to sleep, but didnât manage. So I picked up my sleeping bag and pillow, went down to see if I could sleep there... no couches there, so OK I will try the car... through the dark farmyard to the car.... on the back seat, totally uncomfortable, in the front seat, totally uncomfortable and WIDE awake by that time. Couldnât go back into the house because it was tipping it down at that point đ±! Enjoyed the quiet of the car though! After an hour the rain stopped, so I gather sleeping bag and pillow and go back ....sit in a comfortable seat and being wide awake decide I might as well learn some more Italian (earning me the âoverzealous awardâ for doing a lesson between the hours of 3 and 8 a.m.đ€Ł!!) Then back to bed hoping I might be able to sleep this time.... of course NO WAY! Snore, snore etc. I start sending messages to my daughter in Canada (one big advantage of her being so far away is the time difference!) I recorded the snoring for her and she was appalled at the noise... next attempt: OK I will listen to music... hearing aids in, bluetooth on and lovely music in my ears... as well as snoring outside my ears đ€Ź.... anyway, I fell asleep again around 4 a.m. woke up 90 minutes later (you can fill in the reason why by now!) and .... must have been so tired that I fell asleep in spite of the noise. One hour later it was time to get up!
As the weather was not too good, we did tasks around the farm yard. Two guys were chopping up big logs with a machine and me and two other ladies had to throw the smaller logs into the back of a storage shed... one lady couldnât manage at all and the other... well, she didnât manage too well either. Thanks FB!
Photo: getting ready for throwing one of the numerous logs of that morning. Somehow there is a ghost hand of mine in the top right corner.... Aching shoulders and back, but after a 7 hour non stop sleep back in my own bed (and then two more hours after that) I am ready to âtackle the worldâ again... I think!
Day 2 of conservation... but what a night! đ€Ș
