SO, I have had a long road of trying to get more protein in my oats. I try to stay away from protein powder and recently came across putting egg whites into oats! I thought I would share for anyone that is behind times, such as myself.
The egg whites cook but don't scramble, they basically disappear in the oats, they leave no flavor but boost the protein count while still being real food.
1/2 c quick oats
1/2 cup milk or non dairy milk of your choice - I use almond.
3/4 cup egg whites
ADD INS
I add half a chopped apple and some cinnamon here, the apple cooks and gets soft.
Microwave on high for 1 min 30 seconds.
Stir
Microwave for another 30 seconds to 1 minute and again until you get the texture you like.
I normally do 1 min 30sec, then 1 min, then 30 seconds and it makes the oatmeal thick but not dry.
I then add the rest of my apple and some crushed almonds and a few raisins. :)
My oats before had 6g protein, this way they have 27 g which is the perfect amount, I feel :)
