The Dish
Get all warm and cozy with a nice hot bowl of Turkey and Bean Chili. Lean ground turkey is seasoned with a homemade spice blend. The seasoning blend is a combination of cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and oregano — a perfect mixture of flavors for this tasty soup. Rounding out this chili are hearty portions of red bell pepper, diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, and corn, all simmered together. No chili would be complete without a plethora of toppings. We love adding brown rice, cheddar cheese, low fat sour cream, and fresh chopped cilantro.
Hacking the Recipe
The southwest seasoning mix will keep for a week or two at room temperature, properly sealed in an airtight container. The chili can be made a few days in advance, just refrigerate and reheat when ready to enjoy. We also use precooked brown rice in this recipe. We’re notorious for making or cooking batches of basic pantry staples that will be frequently used throughout the week: quinoa, brown rice, etc. This really cuts down on the overall cooking time as well as day-of prep.
