The Dish
Tortilla chips and guacamole is our all-time favorite snack. We nutritionally boosted this iconic combination with a few wholesome substitutions. Instead of deep fried corn tortilla chips, we season and bake whole wheat tortillas. Our simple tortilla chip seasoning blend definitely provides a bit of a wow factor. Fresh lime zest, chili powder, and a little salt add a nice tangy punch to these chips. The guacamole is a classic blend of avocados, lime juice, and cilantro, with a little added pop thanks to some chopped green onion (and you can add some diced tomatoes too).
Hacking this Recipe: We always keep a steady supply of these chips on hand, they work with so many of our dip recipes (in addition to this tasty guacamole). Let the tortilla chips cool completely and store in either an air-tight container or plastic zipper bags, they will keep for about a week in the pantry.

Ingredients
Chili-Lime Tortillas:
4 each (180 g) whole wheat tortillas, cut into wedges
pan release spray
2 teaspoons (2 g) lime zest
1/2 teaspoon (.5g ) chili powder
1/4 teaspoon (1 g) salt
Guacamole:
2 each (450 g) avocados, seeded and peeled
1/2 cup (8 g) fresh cilantro, chopped
1/4 cup (13 g) green onion, chopped
1/3 cup (67 g) tomatoes, diced (optional)
1 tablespoon (15 ml) lime juice
1/2 teaspoon (1 g) garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon (2 g) salt
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 375°F / 190°C.
- Place tortilla wedges on a large baking sheet (or divide tortilla wedges between 2 baking sheets) and generously oil with pan release spray.
- Place lime zest, chili powder, and salt in a small bowl and stir to combine. Sprinkle seasoning evenly over the tortillas and gently toss the tortillas to coat. Then, spread the tortillas out in a singly layer.
- Place in the oven and bake for 8-12 minutes or until the tortillas are crisp. Remove from the oven and immediately transfer tortillas to a wire rack to cool.
- While the tortilla chips are cooling, place avocados, cilantro, onion, lime juice, garlic powder, and salt in a large bowl. Using a fork or potato masher, smash the avocado until semi-smooth, and stir to combine.
- Serve tortilla chips and guacamole together or add in some fresh raw veggies for dipping.
