Blueberry Peach Smoothie: Low Calorie Post Workout Smoothie

Blueberry Peach Smoothie: Low Calorie Post Workout Smoothie

Healthy Recipes

Overview

This flavorful Blueberry Peach Smoothie is good for a boost after an intense workout because the blueberries supply a healthy dose of fiber, Vitamin C, and manganese, which helps regulate the body's metabolism.

Blueberries are a great addition to a smoothie because they offer loads of antioxidant properties, ranking the highest in antioxidants of all fruits and vegetables. The peaches are also rich in nutritious qualities, boasting high levels of Vitamin A, fiber, and potassium and iron, which are essential to proper cell function.

Aside from the nutrition of the fruits, this yogurt-based blend also offers the added benefit of probiotics, which help maintain healthy digestion by increasing the presence of healthy bacteria within the digestive tract. Aging, especially coupled with years of being prescribed antibiotics, can diminish healthy flora in the body, causing stomach problems and a laundry list of other related ailments. Yogurt is one way to increase the healthy bacteria – to get the most benefit, choose a plain yogurt that is as low in sugar as possible (the fruit is sweet enough that you wont miss the refined sugar a bit, and you can always add honey if you find that you do).

To whip up this masterpiece, you will need…

3/4 Cup plain yogurt
1/2 Cup frozen blueberries
1/2 Cup frozen peaches
1 Banana
1/8 Cup milk

And blend…
Add the splash of milk, yogurt, and banana to the blender first; blend. Then add the frozen fruit to the mix. If you want to make the drink thicker, just add more frozen fruit. If you like a smoothie to be of a thinner consistency, simply thaw out your fruit beforehand or just add a little bit extra milk.

Makes one large serving.
